Russian Premier League team FC Anzhi Makhachkala created quite the splash when they paid a huge amount for legendary striker Samuel Eto’o, and then handed him a huge contract. Now, other big-name signing and current player-manager Roberto Carlos is adding a bevy of superstars to his billionaire owner’s shopping list.
Roberto Carlos wants to help establish Anzhi as one of the dominant clubs in Europe. And he and owner Suleyman Kerimov, the 118th richest man on the planet, have decided to follow the tried and true path of “throwing money at it.”
Anelka is not the only player. Nene from PSG and Van Persie from Arsenal are players we are following. And Neymar? I talked to him. If Real, Barca or Manchester United cannot pay the transfer fee, we will pay it. Suleyman Kerimov can offer what he wants.
We have a feeling that it will take more than money to convince world class players that their futures lie not in the storied grounds of Western Europe but in a far flung corner of – Oh, wait, they’re footballers. Have fun in Dagestan, kids.
