Chelsea striker Fernando Torres is excited to be on the club’s tour of North America this summer. Not because he’s raring to get the new season started following the team’s Champions League triumph or because he wants to test himself against the might of the MLS All-Stars, but because he’s a huge grunge and alternative rock fan.

Speaking to the Chelsea website, Torres revealed his love of flanel shirts and lo-fi angst, saying:

I am a big Nirvana fan, they’re from Aberdeen near Seattle, so it’s a place I would like to see. There are a lot of punk rock groups that started their careers there, so the place is a big influence on the rest of the genre.

I like Pearl Jam too who are from there, and from further south I am a big fan of Incubus and Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

You know, this makes sense. Just like grunge, it seems like it’s been at least 15 years since Fernando Torres was in any way relevant.
