This Thusday, Sporting Kansas City will host the Chicago Fire in the very first game at Sporting’s brand new $165m Livestrong Sporting Park. It is quite fancy.
After years of playing in cavernous Arrowhead Field, and later at the cramped and awkward CommunityAmerica Ballpark, the 18,500 seat stadium is a perfect fit for a much maligned franchise. Despite reasonable successes, winning each of the three main trophies of American Domestic soccer, the club was in recent years constantly rumored to be on the verge of a move to a number of other cities.
The building of Livestrong Sporting Park, Major League Soccer’s eleventh soccer-specific stadium, has put an end to those rumors, and brought a gorgeous new venue onto the American soccer landscape. The US national team will play their first game in the stadium next week, a Gold Cup group stage match against Guadeloupe.
