A few things need saying before we discuss Mark Willis’s unique take on the logo for the newly announced MLS expansion franchise set to start play in New York in 2015 (Don’t know Mark Willis? He’s the guy behind the brilliant baseball/soccer crossover designs): 1. This post will in no way do Mark’s design justice because it doesn’t include his process, which is awesome and totally worth reading, and 2. He fully admits that it’s a direction the team will never take. Now that those things are out of the way, we can begin to talk about how awesome this is.

It’s simple, it’s potentially iconic, and it has a retro New York vibe that seems perfect for a team based within the boroughs of New York. It’s old time baseball and soccer mixed in just the right ways. MLS and NYCFC will never do it, but the could hardly improve on this design. Seriously.

To fully appreciate the design and how Mark arrived at it, GO TO HIS WEBSITE AND READ ABOUT THE PROCESS AND THE VARIOUS INFLUENCES HE CONSIDERED IN DESIGNING A NEW YORK CITY FC BADGE RIGHT THIS SECOND.

Are you gone? Good.
