Nobody would deny that Mario Balotelli had a good European Championships. He tied for the tournament lead with three goals, including both in Italy’s landmark semifinal win over Germany. He’s also coming off a good club season where he scored 17 goals in all competitions and helped Manchester City win its first title in decades. Obviously, Mario’s stock has gone up. But maybe not quite as high as his agent thinks.

Mino Raiola, agent for Balotelli and a number of other players including Marek Hamsik and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, says his client is now worth more than Cristiano Ronaldo, the world’s most expensive player. And not just a little bit more, he says Mario is worth more than double the Real Madrid superstar.

“What is Mario worth after the Euros? Well, I would not say priceless, but if I have to put a value on him, I would say 250 million Euros (£202m).

But whatever the price, he will stay at City, 200 percent. It is not that Mario has changed, but the way people around him now see him. That is what has changed.”

Mario may be talented, but £200m is a bit much to ask for a guy who might explode part of his house at any given time.

In other news, Juventus have offered Arsenal £8 million for Robin van Persie, and numbers related to football transfers have officially ceased to mean anything. Manchester United are bidding for Wesley Sneijder with a bag of turnips and the sound of the color orange.
