No one does careful guarding of his best player legacy like Pele does careful guarding of his best player legacy. Faced with the constant comparisons to the current best player in the world, Lionel Messi, Pele has decided to give the little Argentine an education.
Messi has reportedly said he’s never seen Pele play. Pele, being Pele, cannot allow this to stand, and has vowed to send Messi a copy of the 2004 documentary Pele Eterno (Pele Forever), which includes footage of the Brazilian from his playing days.
“It is a normal thing when a player is compared to a player from another time period, sometimes he is not interested in the comparison,” Pele told Globoesporte.
“If he really did not see me, I’ll do what I once did with Maradona: I’ll send him the video ‘Pelé Eterno’ and then he will.”
That’ll teach Messi to be uninterested in comparison to a player who retired ten years before he was born. Now he’s going to get unsolicited videos in the mail, which he’ll probably have to have his housekeeper throw in the trash. How annoying.
