How this for maturity? Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis, addressing the club’s managerial vacancy now that Walter Mazzari has moved on, told reporters that the next Napoli manager has a name that starts with an “M.” CUE THE WILD SPECULATION.
Roberto Mancini? Roberto Martinez? Could it still be Rafa Benitez, long rumored to be the obvious choice, if you use Rafa’s full name (in the Spanish style, including his mother’s family name) of “Rafael Benitez Maudes”?
Of course, the world is full of managers whose names start with “M.” It doesn’t really narrow the field all that much, especially considering that two strong candidates have names that start with “M.” Maybe De Laurentiis doesn’t even which one it will be himself, and is waiting on someone to make a decisions.
Wouldn’t be amazing if De Laurentiis has painted himself into a corner though? What it Mancini or Martinez falls through, and he has to find a new manager whose name starts with “M” that he doesn’t even want?
If De Laurentis was sure of Mancini or Martinez, he could have simply said the next manager’s first name is “Roberto.”
Dial “M” for Manager.
