Out of the blue: Liverpool third kit 2011/12

Did you know that Liverpool used to wear a white and blue kit? It was nearly 120 years ago, but they most certainly did. And it’s the reason Adidas have referenced the old-school hues on their third-choice kit for 2011/12.

The color choice – better associated with the other team on Merseyside – may not necessarily sit well with folks on The Kop, but famous Everton fan Steven Gerrard seems delighted with the new strip. Pal Dirk Kuyt is equally ecstatic…

The blue diagonal strike – a little reminiscent of the strike from Man City’s third kit from last season – also takes design inspiration from the tracksuit tops “infamous LFC teams of the mid-1980s”. Because everyone loves ‘80s tracksuits. Heck, I’m wearing one right now.

Despite the design heritage, I’m actually actually a big fan of this one, particularly the embroidered black-on-white club emblem. Sweet detailing, Adidas.

Do you like? Is it better than the black and yellow uniform it replaces? Don’t keep your thoughts to yourselves, share the love below…
