It’s like a wacky mixup in a 90s kids movie, only it isn’t, because it’s an actual thing that actually happened for real. The PDL team FC Jax Destroyers, from Jacksonville, Florida, drove down to Orlando, set to scrimmage a team of waiters. Only when they showed up, the waiters were actually the U.S. men’s national team.

According to the USSF’s MNT blog:

Jax head coach Aldan Davison led his team to believe they were making the trip to Orlando to play against a group of waiters.  It must have been quite a surprise when they showed up at the field and were staring across at Carlos Bocanegra, Michael Bradley, Tim Howard, and several other World Cup veterans.

Despite the shock of facing the National Team, the Destroyers put up a good fight and helped the U.S. prepare for the game against Scotland on Saturday. And got a once-in-a-lifetime experience for their efforts.

That’s going to make it so disappointing every time they actually play waiters.
