Peter Nowak Wants Playoff Success, Possibly A Big Bag Of Skittles

The Philadelphia Union have undergone a remarkable turnaround in their second year. From a sieve-like defense and a severe over-reliance on the offense of Sebastien Le Toux, they’ve gone to the best defensive record in the East and a mild over-reliance on the offense of Sebastien Le Toux. Now manager Peter Nowak wants his team to get as much as they can out of the postseason. By which he means candy.

Yes, Nowak is doing his best to bring MLS into the modern age of dodgy managerial analogies with this effort:

“For months we were looking into the window of the store at the candies inside,” said Nowak of his team missing out on the postseason in their expansion year. “After months of hard work, not only for the players but the coaching staff and medical staff, we’re now in the store and it’s up to us how many candies we take. It could be one, three or five, or we could take the whole store.”

Speaking of over-sugared concoctions with no real substance, the New York Red Bulls will attempt to ensure their playoff qualification against the Union tomorrow. Philadelphia will be trying to keep their rivals from having any of that delicious playoff candy.
