The next game Union manager Peter Nowak oversees at PPL Park won’t be the friendly against visiting Everton. It won’t be the league game against the Colorado Rapids. No, he’ll be facing an even trickier prospect: Philadelphia sports fans.

Nowak will be suiting up alongside several other members of the Union front office to take on the Sons of Ben in the inaugural River Cup, a charity exhibition with all proceeds benefiting local youth club Chester City United.

And although Danny Mwanga has said he’s rooting for the SoBs, they really don’t stand much of a chance. Club CEO Nick Sakiewicz played goalkeeper in Europe and in America for most of the 80s. Assistant coach John Hackworth was an A-League player in the late 90s. Nowak himself was captain of the Polish national team and a member of the MLS All-Time Best XI. We’ll bet he does pretty well against these guys:

Nowak may be hoping that none of them are mad at him for selling Jordan Harvey last week and takes a cheap shot. Then again, these are Philly fans. They still haven’t forgiven Eric Lindros.
