Yesterday, America got drunk, made some shit explode, and celebrated the 236th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. And last night, the Philadelphia Union, the team that represents the city where that historic document was written, ratified, and signed, took on the reigning MLS champion LA Galaxy, a team that they had never beaten in four tries, and won, thanks to a dramatic winner in the 95th minute. And the patriotic icing on that bald eagle-loving cake? Eight of Philly’s 11 starters (and both goalscorers) were born in America or naturalized citizens who have played for the US national team.
This post was in no way a Philadelphian gloating about a win. No, sir.
