Ryan Giggs is feeling the pain from his infidelity. In the wake of so much scandal, Giggs’ sponsorship is backing away. That hurts, directly in his wallet.
As Giggsy continually gets plastered with egg on his face for his cheating ways, Reebok (one of his leading sponsors) have distanced themselves from the legendary winger. While Nike has controversially stood beside some of its scandal-ladened athletes including Tiger Woods and football quarterback Ben Roethlisberger (they did drop Michael Vick though), it seems Reebok is working towards an exit strategy but dragging their heels based on future projects.
Nigel Currie, director of sports marketing agency, Brandrapport, said: “I would have thought Reebok would be looking at it, analysing it, before waiting to make a considered announcement.”
Experts believe that Giggs may have commercial work booked in with the adidas-owned sports brand, involving other sports stars, which is delaying a decision as to whether it will continue to support Giggs.
