Sepp Blatter Is Getting One Major Issue Exactly Right

We all know FIFA is a pretty terrible organization. They’re corrupt, almost to a man (and it is almost all men), don’t do nearly enough to actually put an end to racism, sexism, and homophobia, and are more concerned with keeping their cash cow than helping the game. There is one issue, however, where FIFA’s needed attention is firmly set, and it seems like it’s working: match fixing.

While we can’t let him off the hook for all the other awful things he does (allowing Jack Warner to live being number one), FIFA President Sepp Blatter has rightfully identified match fixing as a problem.

Former and current FIFA heads of security have tackled the problem, and FIFA has poured millions into its program, teamed up with INTERPOL, and investigated far and wide, bringing swift justice where problems have been found.

And it seems to be working. Recently, a Malaysia-based gambling syndicate estimated to have made more than $1.3 billion was broken up, with authorities arresting over 150 people involved.

So while FIFA may be a poorly run organization staffed largely by criminals, they’re doing their damnedest to make sure they’re the only criminals profiting from the game. That’s something, right?
