On Friday night in Commerce City, Colorado, the United States men’s national team downed Costa Rica 1-0 to grab three crucial points in the campaign to qualify for Brazil 2014. They did this in a snowstorm that made playing soccer nearly impossible, and on more than one occasions, stadium groundskeepers were forced to run behind the play and clear the lines. So naturally the entire team signed one of the shovels.

Another cool thing from Friday night? All of those insanely committed fans who braved the elements to push on the Americans.

Cool and stylish? Jermaine Jones’s “snofro.” Looking very “founding father” there, Jermaine.

Also cool, the snow-covered desk from which ESPN’s Bob Ley, Alexi Lalas, and Kasey Keller broadcasted like intrepid broadcasting explorers discovering new routes through the snow-covered soccer plains of the Upper Middle North. Those hats? Less cool.

Now, if the whole team signed one of those hats, I would totally wear one. Even to Mexico. Like Alexi did for some reason.

Costa Rica has filed an official protest over the game, in case you were wondering.
