The San Jose Earthquakes had a pretty remarkable season, all things considered. Despite their loss to the LA Galaxy in the MLS Cup playoffs, the Quakes had a lot to crow about in 2012. They were no one’s pick to win anything before the season starter, but they won the Supporters Shield as the league’s top team on points. They set a record for stoppage time goals. Striker Chris Wondolowski tied the longstanding MLS record for most goals in a season. With their “Goonies never say die” motif, the Quakes put together one of the more fun MLS seasons in recent memory.

The Quakes have broken ground on a new stadium that should be ready for the 2014 season (and set a world record in the process), so things are looking up in the land of the Goonies.
