The 2012 edition of the Trophée des Champions, the annual match that pits the Ligue 1 champions against the winners of the Coupe de France (French Cup), will take place at Red Bull Arena on July 28th. French league winners Montpellier will take on cup winners Olympique Lyonnais. As an added bit of exposure in the States, the logo for the match will appear on the racecar of driver Simon Pagenaud at Sunday’s Indianapolis 500.

Frenchman Pagenaud is hoping the logo is an extra bit of luck.

The No. 77 HP IndyCar entry from Sam Schmidt Motorsports will have a special symbol of French luck this weekend in the Indianaoplis 500, putting the Trophée des Champions, the French Championship Soccer Trophy on the race car as a sign of tribute with his athletic countrymen.

A message from Simon himself:

“France has two passions in sport, racing and football…and I am proud to combine those two by having the Trophée des Champions @tdcnyc along for my ride at the Indianapolis 500 this weekend.”
