Tottenham Fans Abuse Gold-Medal Winning Cyclist Sir Chris Hoy, Not Premiership Ref Chris Foy

Sir Chris Hoy is Britain’s greatest cyclist. Just ask anyone British not named Mark Cavendish. Winner of four gold medals, he was granted a knighthood and made BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2008. And all weekend, Spurs fans have been hurling abuse at him.

You see, “Chris Hoy” sounds a lot like “Chris Foy” (and also our Editor-In-Chief Chris Toy), and Tottenham fans, upset over Foy having a howler of a game, denying legitimate penalty shouts and sending off one of their players, went to twitter and gave everything they could come up with.

A knight of the realm and ambassador for the 2012 Olympics, Hoy was classy about the whole incident, gently reminding Tottenham fans that he was not the person they wanted to call a “scumbag.” Or other, much more colorful terms.
