Treasures of eBay is a feature where we wade through the mountains of bollocks on eBay to bring you an auction we think is worth a second look.
Today’s treasure is a a oil-on-wood painting entitled “Seminarions” of priest playing soccer from 1973 with minimum bid of $349.99 and an auction end of March 12, 2012 at 19:39:06 PDT.
Hey, look. It’s priests. Playing soccer. Priests playing soccer in billowing cassocks. This is just what I need for my wall.
The painting is signed by “Tavenari”, and while that sounds like the name of a famous Italian painter, a Google search turns up no information on the artist. We’ll just have to assume he painting this one masterpiece, with the two priests fighting for the ball on a rocky pitch with a tree on it while being sure to keep their arms tucked firmly into their sleeves.
Wait, why is there a tree on the pitch?
The two other priests keep their distance, waiting for a pass. Also, they want to be sure not to run into that damn tree.
In the world of soccer paintings (and we’ve featured out fair share), this is certainly unique.
