The fastest man on the planet not only thinks he could play professional soccer when his track career is done, he thinks he could do it for Manchester United.

Bolt tells the BBC (video):

“I really want to try soccer after I retire because I’ve watched football over the years and I think I could be a good contender. I’m really looking forward to it and yes, I definitely think I’m good enough to play for Manchester United. I’m good enough because I’m quick, I have a little skill – I have to refine it a little bit but I should be good enough.”

Delusion, thy name is Bolt. Like Chad Ochocinco before him, Usain seems to have little appreciation for just how hard playing the game professionaly actually is. At least Chad sets his sites low at first, trying out with an MLS club.

The absolute deadpan delivery of Bolts comments shows the man actually believes what he’s saying, and that this isn’t just a bunch of bluster. Let’s hope United brings him in for a stint, just so we can watch as Bolt learns the hard way that running in a straight line for 100 meters doesn’t have much in common with playing in the Premier League.

Bolt is really, really fast though. Like double the speed of the fastest striker on the planet fast. If there was any possible way for the ball to stay on his foot and not streak off into the last row at deadly speeds threatening the safety of dozen of spectators, it would be fun to see him play.
