Brazil has had a serious problem with crime in recent years, homicide rates jumping up 124% in the last three decades. Gang violence has become a fact of life for residents of Brazilian favelas, sprawling urban slums.
But you know what aspiring gangsters like even more than shooting people? Soccer. So the Brazilian department of justice has submitted a proposal to FIFA that would allow them to trade tickets for guns. And then just to up their “saving the world with soccer” cred, the guns will be turned into the most badass goalposts of all time.
