You Can Take Libyan National Team Players’ Lives, But You Can’t Take Their Freedom

It seems like defecting from your authoritarian dictatorship has become the new snood for international footballers. A few weeks back, Cuban forward Yosniel Mesa claimed asylum in the United States.

Not to be outdone, several members of the Libyan National Team, joined by the coach of Tripoli’s top club side and a total of 17 leading Libyan football figures, have joined the rebel forces fighting against the regime of Libyan leader Colonel Muammar Gaddafi.

National team goalkeeper Juma Gtat told the BBC ”I am telling Col Gaddafi to leave us alone and allow us to create a free Libya. In fact I wish he would leave this life altogether,”

Now if only the Swiss would get off their ass and do something about Blatter. Damn neutrals.
